Cultivating change
In countless ways, fungi are involved in so many aspects of what we know. It truly is incredible.
The important ways that these organisms interact with our environment, bodies, and minds have gained a lot of traction in recent years. There's a good reason for that!
This "Queendom" deserves our attention and respect. We hold the very important responsibility of learning how to further integrate, work with, and benefit from all that fungi have to offer. As time goes on, this amazing realm is continuing to show us that in profound ways... everything and everyone is connected.

The Project
The mission ahead is to provide my community with options to engage these beneficial fungi in integrated and practical ways.
Whether it’s implementing them in a recipe to enjoy with family, using their medicinal benefits for a healthier path through life, learning to cultivate them, or applying their usefulness in environmental stewardship and mycoremediation, fungi have so much to offer and teach us.
I wish to share what I've learned with those interested in cultivation, applied mycology, and any other way that we can work with fungi. Not to mention, providing delicious fresh mushrooms!
There is also momentum for Radical Cultures to be a provider of quality mushroom medicine for Natural Health Practitioners in the Northern Colorado community.
Once I dove into this realm, the previous view of my place in this world changed profoundly, and my journey hasn’t stopped unfolding and deepening. I wish simply to spread the spores of change in the right direction and enable others to cultivate a new way of being.

My name is Derek Bell. I am the founder of Radical Cultures. I've been cultivating medicinal and gourmet mushrooms since 2021. But I've been fascinated by them since I was just a little dude. My deep dive into mycology was triggered when I came across a wild Bears Head Fungus (Hericium americanum) on the shores of Lake Michigan. I had never come across anything like it before! After positively identifying this gourmet edible, and coming across all of the information on the potential health benefits of this ONE mushroom... My little brain exploded.
It continued exploding into the unbelievably fascinating world of mycology that has profoundly changed my view, and my interaction with the world around me.
After collecting book after book on cultivation, philosophy, research, and potential health benefits, my passion has been awakened.
This is why I have now become an advocate voice for the fungi.
I never want to stop learning about this realm so I can do my best to improve my community by providing quality mushroom medicine, gourmet edible species, as well as eventually having a hand in local bioremediation. I wish to collaborate with like minded people and actively preserve and improve this beautiful Colorado land that I am native to. The passion, dedication, and time that is being put into this project is where my heart lies. I also work as a Head Chef preparing a fantastic whole food menu for individuals on their own healing journeys. Having the ability to be the provider of these functional gourmet mushrooms to implement into my menu has been nothing short of an honor! I work very hard to use only naturally sourced and organic materials in every aspect of my little farm to produce the highest quality end result that I possibly can.
